Event 13, (unlucky for some!), of 40

Date: 24/04/2016

Run: Frenchay 10K

Distance: 10K

Time taken: 54:04

Memory of Event: Enjoying running!

http://www.frenchay10k.co.uk

The Frenchay 10K is one of the countries oldest 10K events. First held in 1980, the race was conceived with the joint purpose of staging a well-organised run for serious runners and beginners’ alike AND raising money for local charities. The Charities this year were the Keynsham and District Mencap Society, and Children’s Hospice South West.

This run was scenic and undulating, as we passed through the first few miles, and followed the river. I really relaxed and enjoyed running, on this lovely spring morning, in an area I would not of normally ran around. The 40 Events are allowing this to happen; as each events takes me to places I would otherwise not of been to, and enabling me to  see things different from my normal surroundings.

I made good head way around the Course, and I was feeling strong, a kick of a long hill towards the end finished the run, and I became the proud owner of a Frenchay 10K Mug! 🙂

Event: Exmoor Beauty Cycling Sportive

Distance: 71 Miles / 114 KM

Time taken: 05:30, (including a stop for a very overdue Bacon Sandwich!)

Memory of Event: Beautiful, scenic ride

http://www.exmoorbeauty.org

It was a beautiful, sunny morning, albeit a bit chilly, -1c, as Mike and I  arrived in Tiverton at 7am to start this event. But the sun shone, and held a lot of promise for the coming few hours that we would spend on the bike’s.

This ride is aptly named, as it was a truly beautiful ride around the stunning Exmoor National Park, with long, but manageable climbs, we wound around and through this beautiful countryside, enjoying lovely descents, and scenic climbs. The sun shone down on Exmoor that morning, making it seem even more scenically beautiful.

We stopped off 40 miles for the prepared Bacon Sandwiches, and cups of tea, that the event offered, it had been a long time since breakfast, and these were quickly devoured by ourselves! Fuelled by these we ascended right up on to the moor, where we followed country roads across the moor, and were even lucky enough to see a few of the iconic Exmoor wild ponies!

We had a lovely long descent back to the start in Tiverton, where the road runs along side the river. The last 10 miles past in a blur, as we sped along this lovely section of road, on the home ward straight, arriving back at the start, a few degrees warmer, and a lot tireder!!

So the longest event, so far completed! I am happy to be back on the road, after a bout of illness! 🙂

Event: Tour De Bristol. St Peter’s Hospice Charity Bike Ride
Distance: 50K
Time taken: 02:10
Memory of Event: Stinking Cold, sadly!

http://tourdebristol.stpetershospice.org.uk/

As the year changes, so do my Events, and this is the first “bike ” Event this year. After suffering from a stinking cold all week, I wasn’t very encouraged by the grey morning that greeted me. Still, it was for charity, St Peter’s Hospice, and it had a great name! Not too taxing, cycling along a route that was local to me, and I am familiar with.

Once I had shaken off the first 20 minutes of horrible cycling with a cold, I enjoyed the route, and the joining of cyclists for a worthwhile charity event. It attracted many different people, and for a change I wasn’t the slow one at the back! 2 hours into the ride the sun started to shine, and the day became lovely, with warm sunshine as I finished, and to cycle home! 🙂 Event 11Event 11
